Judge Robert Elgee has added his name to a list of six other county officials who have said they will seek re-election on Nov. 2.

The filing period for candidacy opened Monday, and closes Friday, March 19.

On Tuesday, Elgee announced he will run for re-election to Idaho's 5th Judicial District.

Other incumbent candidates who have announced they will run include Blaine County Commissioners Tom Bowman and Angenie McCleary, County Clerk JoLynn Drage, Treasurer Vicki Dick, Assessor Valdi Pace and Coroner Russ Mikel.

As of Tuesday morning, only Pace had filed for candidacy. No challengers have filed or publicly announced an intention to do so.

Elgee was appointed as 5th District judge in June 2004 by the Idaho Judicial Council to fill a vacancy left by Judge James May, who retired that year. After finishing the remainder of the term, Elgee was subsequently elected to the post in 2006 for another four-year term. If re-elected, he would sit on the bench from the beginning of 2011 through 2014.

"I will continue to be dedicated to the principle of equal justice for all and a common-sense application of the law," Elgee said in a news release. "I remain dedicated to the people of the Fifth Judicial District as I know my decisions affect their lives and private property rights as well as law and order in our communities."

In interviews last month, the other incumbent officials all confirmed their intentions to run for re-election this fall.

Whereas the other incumbents are veterans of the election process, McCleary, the vice-chair of the commission, will be involved in her first election. McCleary, 33, was appointed to her current position in July 2008 by Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter to replace retiring Commissioner Sarah Michael.

A Democrat, McCleary will run for a two-year term in the District 3 seat, which represents northern Blaine County. In an interview in February, McCleary said she's looking forward to continuing her work on the Friedman Memorial Airport replacement project and the upcoming county budget.

Of this group of incumbents, Coroner Russ Mikel is the longest-standing county employee, having held his position since 1986. He said he is seeking re-election for another four-year term.
