Join BAH at bank on Thursday

The Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau has invited members and guests to attend the March Business After Hours, hosted by Idaho Independent Bank. The BAH will be held Thursday, March 11, from 5-7 p.m. at 491 N. Main St., Suite 101, in Ketchum.

Businesses are encouraged to use this monthly event as an opportunity to network with other members, meet new business operators in town and get better acquainted with the companies hosting the event.

Winter Concert series at Town Plaza

The Cox Communications Winter Concert Series continues in its fifth week on Thursday, March 11, from 4-6 p.m. at the Ketchum Town Plaza, featuring the eclectic sounds of the Mighty Shims.

The Mighty Shims play a mix of Americana—swamp, Indie garage, 1930s swing, folk, contemporary ballads, pop interpretations, some blues and a good dose of lively originals.

The events are presented by Cox Communications and sponsored by the Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau, Mountain Town Events and the city of Ketchum. This event is free and open to the public.

Coping with anxiety and panic

Many adults deal with chronic or occasional anxiety and panic disorders that can cause both emotional and physical disturbances. During a Brown Bag lecture today at St. Luke's Hailey Clinic, professional counselor Shelly Vegwert will discuss these issues and provide information about causes, symptoms and treatments.

The lecture will take place from 12:15-1:15 p.m. in the clinic's Carbonate Rooms.

All Brown Bag lectures are free and no pre-registration is required. Please call St. Luke's Center for Community Health for information on this or other educational programs, at 727-8733.

St. Luke's welcomes guest chef

In celebration of sustainable foods and in conjunction with St. Luke's Green Cuisine program, the community is invited to attend the continuation of the hospital's Winter Guest Chef program. Chris Kastner, owner of CK's Real Food in Hailey, will bring his locally produced, sustainable creations to the hospital's café today, March 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at St. Luke's south of Ketchum.

Heart of the Valley photos on display

The winning photographs from this year's Heart of the Valley contest are on display through March 15 at Bank of America on Main Street in Ketchum. From March 16-22, they will be at The Brickhouse Bar & Grill in Bellevue.

The contest was organized by the Hailey-based Wood River Land Trust.

SNRA to hold winter adventure day

Children can play and learn about winter ecology at the Sawtooth National Recreation Area headquarters north of Ketchum on Saturday, March 13, and Wednesday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free event will include puppet shows, scavenger hunts and hot chocolate. Bring appropriate outdoor clothing and snacks or lunch.

Save the date for folk festival

The 33rd annual Northern Rockies Folk Festival will take place Friday, Aug. 6, from 5-10 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 7, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Hop Porter Park in Hailey. Sold only in advance, a wristband ticket for Friday will cost $12 and for Saturday $18. A two-day wristband will cost $25. Wristbands will be available at Chapter One Bookstore, Notes Music and online at nrff.net

Friday evening's lineup includes Quailfish, Michael White, Olin and the Moon, and Lisa Haley and the Zydecats. Saturday will feature Scott Fairfax and Friends, Joe Paisley, Gypsy River Haunts, FourStroke Bus, No Cheap Horses, Johnnie Shoes and Joshua Tree, Leslie and the Badgers and Kelly Willis. The Saturday show will feature "tweeners" between several of the acts, including musicians Piers Lamb and Tom Archie.

Several nonprofit vendors will sell food during the festival. The festival is an all-volunteer effort, from the staff to security.

Campgrounds open for fishing

The Sawtooth National Recreation Area has opened four campgrounds along the Salmon River downstream from Stanley to accommodate steelhead-fishing season. The campgrounds are Salmon River, Mormon Bend, Whiskey Flats and Holman Creek. Campers are required to use fire rings and pack out all trash.
