Hutch Cup match-ups round into shape

Hutch's Bad Dogs showed that a dog bite can be as bad as a shark bite during B+ Hockey action Sunday night at Sun Valley Skating Center.

The Bad Dogs (5-6-2, 12 points) won their third straight and stopped the red-hot, first-place Sharks 2-1. Sharks got an early goal from Jay Hendricks. Dogs equalized with a Chris Roberts goal in the second. With six minutes left, Jeff Emerick tallied the winner.

Still, the Sharks (9-3-1, 19 points) clinched the top seed in the upcoming, third annual Hutch Cup playoffs when the Isles jumped out to a three-goal lead and held off the Vipers 5-3.

Isles (6-5-2, 14 points) got goals from five different scorers, Todd Avison, Dan Gorham, Nic Thomas, Scott Seaward and Dale Johnson. Goals for Vipers (6-4-3, 15 points) came off the sticks of Jim Laski, Tony Mallane and Benjy Walker.

The last-place Wildcats (2-8-3, 7 points) battled the fifth-place Senators (3-5-5, 11 points) but in the end the Nats held off the Cats 2-1. Doug Wilson and Ryan Laughy scored for the Nats while pick-up player Todd Avison got the lone Cats goal.

Just one more week remains before the league playoffs.
