Indians put 26-goal hurt on Suns

Seattle brings strong club to Sun Valley

Ouch!

The Seattle Indians brought a strong hockey club of Canadians and two potent Colorado College alumni to Sun Valley Skating Center for last weekend's season finale of the Sun Valley Suns men's ice season.

And the results weren't pretty.

Seattle handed a wounded Sun Valley team 12-3 and 14-1 losses in a rout seldom seen on resort ice. The Indians amassed an unheard-of 63 points over two games and invoked the mercy rule of a running clock for much of Saturday's game.

Leading the way with 13 points apiece for Seattle were two native Canucks who started their collegiate careers at Colorado College in 1994 and continued playing minor league hockey for many years.

They were British Columbia's Stewart Bodtker, 33, a 6-0, 190-pound right-shooting center from Penicton who was a seventh-round entry draft selection of the Vancouver Canucks in 1995. He notched four goals and nine assists.

His running mate was 35-year-old Jason Gudmundson from Manitoba, a 5-9, 170-pound right wing who played a little for WCHL Tacoma Sabercats. He scored five goals and eight assists over the two games.

Sun Valley, playing without its starting goalie Ryan Thomson and captain Vilnis Nikolaisons, ended its 18-game season with an 11-7-0 record.

Leading scorer for the season was center Jamie Ellison with 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points. It was Ellison's fifth Suns scoring title to go with wins from 2000-02 and 2007.
