Former Wood River High School student Max Durtschi has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, a distinction that places him among the top 14,000 graduating seniors in the United States.
Durtschi, who is now in Boulder, Colo., training for a career as a professional cyclist, attended the first trimester this school year at Wood River High School and is now completing his senior year with online classes.
Finalists for the scholarship program were selected based upon SAT college entrance exams, the National Merit Scholarship Qualification Test, grade point average and other academic merits.
Durtschi is the son of Ketchum residents Martin and Kitty Durtschi.
He is currently staying in Boulder, working out with Garmin-Transition's U23 cycling team, and plans to begin competing this spring with the USA National Cycling Team throughout Europe.
Durtschi has been accepted to attend Dartmouth College.
