In response to a letter to the editor titled "Grads deserve a place to celebrate" in the Feb. 17 paper, I am disgusted and appalled by the statements made in said letter. First and foremost, I will bring to light the fact that there is a senior party, called Senior Bash. This party takes place every year after graduation and is endorsed by parents, local businesses and the local law enforcement agencies; it will also be noted that there is no alcohol on the premises as it is illegal to provide minors with alcohol. This party is enough for most seniors.
As a classmate of Brooke Selish, I can say how much she and Pauline are missed in this life. A statement made in the article on the 17th is false: It cannot be proven who was driving the vehicle that crashed and it cannot be confirmed that alcohol played any part in the crash.
Again, our hearts go out to the families of Brooke and Pauline. I am embarrassed for the senior class, and all previous senior classes, and wish to make clear that the senior class is not obsessed with partying and alcohol, and also to apologize for such a disgraceful letter being published. The previous letter does not represent how the senior class feels about Senior Bash and parties and it is not a goal of ours to turn past events and mourning into a viable excuse to get drunk with community support.
