Scott USA takes its turn at Town Series top

Giant slalom racing on Cozy


The 19th annual Sun Valley Town Series went to a combined two-run format for the first time Wednesday—and Scott USA surged into the team lead over Ski Tek Trainwrecks.

Scott USA put up a bunch of zeroes to vault into the 28-team lead with a four-week total of 0.26, just ahead of Ski Tek 0.39. Two other teams moved up with 0.00 days, third-place Wood River Masonry (0.73) and fourth-place Tekasoreass (1.14).

On the Scott USA leaders are John Zuck, John Reagle, Toby Arnett and Jeff Page. Trainwreckers are Phil Erlanger, Mark Masur, Chris Campbell and Brent Hansen.

Two more teams made inroads into the top eight with 0.00 days. They were Drunken Blumkens (Ash Higgins, Frank Fiaschetti, Will Roth, Mike Stevens) and Crazy About Racing (D.J. Hart, Mitra Marie, Shea Shapiro, Kim Rogers).

Top 10 racers in the combined two runs format:

Carlo Rixon 49.23, Robin Sarchett 49.30, Nate Schwing 49.54, Wes Powell 50.71, Matt Murphy 51.10, John Campbell 52.09, Cam Minor 52.49, Cam Fraser 53.33, Ash Higgins 53.93 and Kipp Nelson 54.26. Erika Hogan was the fastest woman in 11th place of 94 racers, 54.81.

Matt Kaufman and Mitra Marie came closest to the rabbit time of 64.70. Further dates for dual modified giant slaloms are March 3 (party Mahoney's), March 10 (Lefty's) and March 17 (Apple's Bar & Grill). The second and final combined two-run event is March 17.
