Pianists go head-to-head

Classical piano performance to feature Russian music

The Sun Valley Winter Artist Series presents pianists Peter Henderson and Susan Spelius Dunning performing "Classical Piano: An Evening of Russian Music" at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum. The performance will take place on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. A pre-concert talk will begin at 7 p.m. and following the performance Henderson and Dunning will attend a "Meet the Artists" reception.

Henderson and Dunning will perform music by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. Henderson served as an orchestral and chamber keyboardist with the Sun Valley Summer Symphony during its 2004 and 2006-2008 seasons.

Henderson has also served as Assistant Professor of Music at Maryville University, and performs frequently as an ensemble keyboardist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. He made his first appearance as a subscription-concert soloist with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in January 2008.

Dunning was the recipient of the prestigious Amelita Galli Curci Foundation Award and received numerous scholarships from the Three Arts Club of Chicago. She has a bachelor's degree from The American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and went on to receive a master's degree from Colorado State University, where she studied with Dr. Janet Landreth. Dunning continued her studies in the Doctorate of Musical Arts program at the University of Colorado. She recently recorded a solo CD featuring works by Rachmaninoff, Khatchaturian, Schumann and Chopin. Dunning splits her time between Sun Valley and Perugia, Italy.

Tickets for the performance are $35 and $15 for students. Patron tickets for the final two concerts are $140 with an $80 tax-deductible donation. Adult subscription-series tickets are $60.
