Grads deserve a place to celebrate

Senior party is a big deal. Recent graduates just want to let loose, go wild and celebrate the fact that they survived high school. But last year there wasn't a senior party. And two years ago this spring, Pauline Hoagland and Brooke Selisch passed away in a car accident from what I think is a direct result of an overbearing police force. That year, senior party was near Carey, a good 30- to 45-minute drive. And the only reason it was so far away is because of the common fear of a police bust; nobody wants to get arrested right after they graduate.

The morning after, Brooke and Pauline were driving back to Hailey. Brooke fell asleep at the wheel, the car rolled and both girls died (It was proven in a toxicology report that Brooke was not intoxicated at the time of the accident).

This tragedy was 100 percent preventable, as all other accidents like it could be. If the Hailey Police Department, parents and students collaborated and found a safe and secure place for the senior party to happen, nothing like this could happen again. And, yes, it is underage drinking, but do you honestly think that should be a big enough deal to cost lives? Sober lives?
