Expedition Inspiration encourages the public to attend its open forum to discuss and learn about breast cancer research on Thursday, Feb. 18.

The Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research will hold the 14th annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium from Wednesday, Feb. 17-21, at the Sun Valley Resort.

Breast cancer research scientists from around the world will attend the symposium, "New Targets for Breast Cancer Therapy." Expedition Inspiration scientific advisor, Dr. Marc Lippman, a leading authority in the field of breast cancer, will chair the meeting. Although the symposium is not open to the public, Expedition Inspiration will host a free community open forum on Thursday, Feb. 18, from 5-7 p.m. at the Sun Valley Inn Limelight Room. The event will be held in conjunction with the symposium.

The open forum is for anyone interested in learning about the latest in cancer research and treatments. Featured speakers will be physician and scientist Doug Yee, director of the University of Minnesota Breast Cancer Research Program and James M. Rae, assistant professor atthe University of Michigan's Department of Internal Medicine.

The presentations will offer community attendees an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in cancer diagnostics and treatments. The open forum will also present "Meet The Experts," when all 2010 symposium presenters will offer insight into each of their areas of expertise with a Q & A session for attendees.

In addition, Expedition Inspiration will also present its 2009 Young Investigator Award recipients at the open forum, which include Laura G. Gonzalez at the Center for Personalized Diagnostics at The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University and Bushra Ateeq at the Michigan Center for Translational Patholog at the University of Michigan. Each received grants from Expedition Inspiration in 2009 and will speak about their research projects.

Expedition Inspiration, which holds treks, hikes and other activities to raise money for breast cancer research, is headquartered in Ketchum. Save the date for the fourth annual Twilight Snowshoe Celebration on Sunday, March 21. For details, call 726-6456, e-mail ei@expeditioninspiration.org or visit expeditioninspiration.org.
