Virginia Mae Nevins


Virginia Mae (Brackett) Nevins, 89, passed away Jan. 30, 2010, at the Athol Memorial Hospital in Athol, Mass.

She was born in Athol on Dec. 5, 1920, the daughter of Clarence and Marguerite (Joyce) Brackett, and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1938.

Virginia worked at the Athol Memorial Hospital as an LPN for over 20 years, was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she was on the Altar Guild and volunteered at the thrift shop.

She loved to travel and was an excellent skier, regularly frequenting Bald Mountain in Sun Valley, Idaho, where four of her eight children have lived.

Also, she enjoyed bowling, tennis, knitting, playing cards, especially poker, Scrabble and spending summers at the family lake house in Fitzwilliam, N.H.

She leaves four daughters, Jackie Judsky of Marietta, Ga.; Jennifer Nevins of York Village, Maine, and Ketchum, Idaho; Joyce Nevins of Fountain Hills, Ariz., formerly of Ketchum; and Jaye Nevins of Holyoke, Mass.; two sons, J. Bart Nevins of Bellingham, Wash., and Jeffrey Nevins of Hailey, Idaho; one brother, Donn Brackett of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Frank Nevins, who died in 1990, and by two daughters, Joan Pitcairn of Hailey, Idaho, who died in 1992, (Joan's son, Matthew Pitcairn, resides in Hailey) and Judith Bowden, who died in 2003.
