Guilty plea expected in employee theft case

Judge cancels March trial for Terri L. Sanders

A March jury trial for a Bellevue woman accused of stealing from her former Ketchum employer was cancelled Monday after the woman's attorney said in court that his client intends to plead guilty.

Hailey attorney Kevin Cassidy was speaking on behalf of 44-year-old Terri L. Sanders, who is charged with four felonies for allegedly misappropriating funds from Espinoza Flooring in Ketchum. Cassidy and Sanders were in Blaine County 5th District Court at a pretrial conference for a trial scheduled to start March 2.

Prior to the start of Monday's court hearing, Cassidy was discussing a plea agreement for his client with Blaine County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Matt Fredback. Terms of the agreement were not yet available.

Sanders was originally charged in August with four felonies—two counts of grand theft and two counts of forgery—for allegedly misappropriating funds from Espinoza Flooring while employed there in 2006. Court documents do not state an exact amount that Sanders is accused of stealing, but indicate the amount is in excess of $4,000.

Judge Robert J. Elgee scheduled a change-of-plea hearing for March 8.

Sanders remains free on her own recognizance.
