Air service here is safe

While the community is working diligently to support quality air service to and from the Wood River Valley, your recent editorial attempts to terrorize those same airline passengers.

You cite "USA Today" to get your info. That article addressed airlines that do not serve the Valley. The story was a national story and you are a local paper that should be capable of generating local news and editorials, not copying some other person's work to make the grade.

The airlines serving our community have had numerous safety commendations and are among the safest in the world. Your article would have our local residents feel otherwise.

As an airline employee of one of those local airlines, we strive to put safety first when making decisions about weight and balance, weather, and mechanical operation. We want our friends and neighbors to arrive at their destination or back home safely. There are numerous reports in the news about shoddy journalism or defamation. Would you appreciate it if we just lumped the Mountain Express in with those newspapers? I assume not since you too strive to be a great paper.

I challenge you in the future when borrowing someone else's stories to first judge whether it is local news, and if so, rewrite the article addressing local variances of the story.

Another slant you could pursue would be to determine which is safer, driving to the WR Valley or flying to it and by what percentage?

In summary, please generate your news and editorials based on local interests and news. Also consider how your article will affect the people and businesses of our valley.

Airline passengers equal jobs to this valley as well as income for businesses and local taxes for better government services. Do not attempt to terrorize the hand that feeds us all.
