Wood River Gymnastics Academy teams traveled to Nampa last weekend to compete in the Winter Fest Gymnastics Meet hosted by Danik Gymnastics. The meet was held at Northwest Nazarene University's Johnson Sports Center. There were 450 gymnasts competing in Levels 3 through 10.
Three more gymnasts qualified for state—Addason Park, Haley Bjorkman and Alma Stosius. Other gymnasts took top places for their first time.
Despite not having all their team members at Nampa the local gymnasts pushed through the meet and did well.
"We did well enough to feel good about ourselves, but made some mistakes we need to improve on," said Andrea Minnick, Wood River Gymnastics Academy's head coach.
Here's an outline of WR Gymnastics Academy athletes and Nampa results:
On the WRGA Level 3 team are AnneMarie Deffe, Morgan Benson (did not compete), Jillian Palmer, Kate Horowitz, Kaegan Wherry and Sydney Sisco. Top Level 3 finishers:
Kaegan Wherry 5th vault (8.25) and 5th beam (7.95); Kate Horowitz 5th vault (8.15); Jillian Palmer 4th beam (8.7); AnneMarie Deffe 3rd vault (8.9) and 2nd floor (8.7).
WRGA Level 4 team consists of Addason Park, Sienna Miley, Ciara Hulett, Luma Randolph (did not compete), Sage Rheinschild (did not compete), EvaThea Drougas, Amber Park, Megan Downey (did not compete), Lauren Cord, Ana Poklemba, Haley Bjorkman and Aubree Haynes. Top Level 4 finishers:
Amber Park 3rd vault (9.2), 1st bars (8.5), 3rd beam (8.4), 1st floor (8.9) and 2nd all around (35.0); Addason Park 2nd vault (8.8), bars (7.35), beam (6.8), floor (7.15) and all-around with a score of 30.1 (good for state);
Lauren Cord 2nd vault (9.3), 3rd bars (7.45), 2nd beam (8.5), 3rd floor (7.8) and 3rd all-around (33.05); Ana Poklemba 4th vault (8.75), bars, beam (7.55), floor and all-around; Haley Bjorkman 5th vault (8.85).
On the WRGA Level 5 team are Brygitte DeLaCruz, Riley Boice (did not compete) and Bella Stethem (did not compete).
The WRGA Level 6 team consists of Kaili Smith, Sara Runkel (did not compete), Callie Weber and Maddie Marcouiller. Top Level 6 finishers:
Maddie Marcouiller 3rd vault (8.525), 4th bars (7.275), 3rd beam (8.4), 4th floor (8.1) and 4th all-around (32.3); Kaili Smith 4th vault at 8.3.
WRGA Level 7 team consists of Alma Stosius. Alma placed 5th on vault with a score of 9.1.
