Rug company owners file Chapter 11

The owners of Davies-Reid, a handmade rug company with locations in Ketchum, Boise, Jackson, Wyo., and Park City, Utah, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Jan. 15.

T.J. Angstman, attorney for Davies-Reid's owners, said business operations are unaffected by the bankruptcy because only the owners have filed for bankruptcy protection.

He said a dispute arose between the owners and Bank of America about a year ago when the bank refused to renew a line of credit. Owners Terry Reid and Sharon Davies own the real estate for each of their locations. Angstman said this caused a default on all real estate loans.

Angstman said the Jackson store was offered for sale and a purchaser was found, but the sale couldn't close before foreclosure. He said that even though the buyer was willing to cover a $2.7 million debt, the bank refused to cancel the foreclosure sale unless the owners paid about $370,000 in "default interest" on the Jackson and other loans.

Ketchum welcomes The Water Store

The Water Store, located at 400 Sun Valley Road in Ketchum, above The Cellar Pub, has been trying to spur drinking of ionized water since opening a few months ago. Camille Wood, hydration specialist at the store, said the chemical-free water, high in antioxidants and alkalinity, hydrates and detoxifies the body.

Wood said the ionized water is called "Kangen water" and is made by connecting the Japanese machine—bought at the store—to the faucet. The ionizer costs $4,000.

"People are kind of sticker-shocked when they hear that," Wood said, "but it lasts for 15 to 20 years."

Presentations explaining the ionization process occur at the store every Monday at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.
