"We are all under construction," said Kristin Armstrong, a runner, author, speaker and mother of three. "For me, a combination of optimal health and balance is important."

Armstrong is the ex-wife of world-famous cyclist Lance Armstrong. She has written five manuscripts and will share thoughts on her most recently published book, "Work in Progress: An Unfinished Woman's Guide to Grace," on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum.

Armstrong will present a free lecture to Girls on the Run at 2 p.m. and will give a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing at 3 p.m. The 3 p.m. presentation will cost $15 for adults and $5 for students.

"Many moms and women put dreams and projects on hold," Armstrong said. "Women struggle and have the impression that any goal or dream is reserved for somebody else."

Armstrong is also a contributing editor to Runner's World and often finds motivation and inspiration from participating in training and other activities with other people.

"It's one thing to talk about doing things and another to do it and map it out," she said. Armstrong said she understands that when people get derailed in life that it's difficult to come back. She said kids are watching their parents all the time, especially how they handle life situations.

"I think any kind of adversity is an opportunity to open up," she said. "A community that thrives and survives is one willing to open up and have a conservation."

Armstrong has a chapter in her book devoted to beauty. She said being beautiful on the inside sounds cliché but beauty and passion go hand in hand.

"The concept of beauty and confidence are really tied together," she said. "I want my girls to feel comfortable in their own skin, feel safe and be strong."

Tickets and Armstrong's book can be purchased at Iconoclast Books in Ketchum. Tickets are also available at the door. Free childcare will be available. For details on childcare, call 788-2559.
