The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2010 is part of an exciting week of activities in Ketchum. This year the film festival is part of the Sun Valley Nordic Festival and will screen films on Thursday, Feb. 4, through Saturday, Feb. 6 at the nexStage Theatre in Ketchum at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are $15 at the door. Tickets are also available in Ketchum at Chapter One Bookstore, Backwoods Mountain Sports and the Elephant's Perch.

All proceeds from the film festival support the Friends of the Sawtooth National Forest Avalanche Center and the Satipo Kids Project. The Satipo Kids Project funds 38 school children from Peru to attend school.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is the largest traveling film festival in the world and will showcase 20 films over three nights in Ketchum.

"The films are fresh and new," said Michael Boge, festival tour host. "There are three nights of different films. Attendees who go every evening will see the majority of films in the festival where most cities only have one night of films."

Boge, who has hosted the festival in Sun Valley for 10 years, said the festival is big and travels across America and Europe and as far as Antarctica. Starting in Banff where it is a nine-day film-and-book festival in early November, the film festival is on the road for the rest of the year.

"I wondered this year how it would do because of the economy, but it has been a sellout," Boge said. "When you go, you want to see one film but everyone walks away liking another film."

The opening night of the festival on Thursday, Feb. 4, will feature "Medeo Z" (multi-sport), "Signatures: Canvas of Snow" (snow riders), "Take a Seat" (cycling adventure), "Shining Spirit" (Tibet and music), "Hunlen" (ice climbing), "Africa Revolutions Tour" (whitewater kayaking) and "Project Megawoosh" (human water slide).

The Friday, Feb. 5, evening screenings will include "Kranked-Revolve" (mountain biking), "Finding Farley" (adventure travel), "The Ultimate Skiing Showdown" (Nordic skiing), "Mustang-Journey of Transformation" (Tibetan culture) and "First Ascent: Alone on the Wall" (rock climbing).

The final evening of films on Saturday, Feb. 6, will be "Revolution One" (off-road unicycling), "Mont-Blanc Speed Flying" (paragliding), "A Little Bit Mongolian" (horseback riding), "Rowing the Atlantic" (rowing race), "Deep/Shinsetsu" (powder skiing in Japan), "Pick-up Sticks" (sea birds), "Azazel" (mountaineering) and "Project Megawoosh" (human water slide).
