It’s fun to pay the YMCA

Matching donations sought for $50,000 grant

The Wood River Community YMCA in Ketchum has received a $50,000 donation from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, but must match the donation to receive it.

Furthermore, the Boise-based foundation stipulated that the matching $50,000 must be designated for the YMCA's Open Doors scholarship program.

Open Doors allows members to pay less than the standard rate on an income-based scale. The YMCA reported that more than half its members use the Open Doors program. The reduced-membership fees are possible through $500,000 donated to the YMCA annually to cover the gap.

"The Y is accessible to all," said Benjamin Wood, YMCA board member and development chairman. "That is what makes it the great unifier in our valley."

Call Jovita Pina, YMCA development associate, at 727-9622 for more information on helping the YMCA meet this $50,000 grant opportunity, or e-mail her at jpina@woodriverymca.org.
