Footlight Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Hilarie Neely, will present its senior company premiere performance "Earth Day Dancing" at the Community Campus Theater in Hailey on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. The company's 18 dancers will present an evening in honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

Tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for students, are available at Chapter One Bookstore in Ketchum, Footlight Dance Centre Studio in Hailey, from the dancers and at the door. Proceeds will provide scholarships for students attending classes and summer workshops.

The program will include dances inspired by Mark Kashino, a Wood River Valley painter. Drawing from his "Homo Enigmus" series, his term for a human puzzle, his abstract paintings are intended to allow viewers to find meaning between what to do to help the planet and how art can inspire action. The dancers will interpret the paintings though ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip-hop.

Eighteen dancers from Wood River High School will dance in the performances. Three seniors—Sierr Brand, Brita Gaeddert and Alexandra Haupt—will participate in their final year of performances.

Each January for more than 20 years, Footlight has provided Blaine County students a free, professional educational tour of dance. Over the years, the dancers have performed for over 50,000 students. The Footlight Dance Company mission has been to expose children to dance and collaborating art forms. The company will visit all eight Blaine County schools prior to its community performance.

For details, on dates, times and locations of the tour, call Hilarie Neely at 578-5462.
