Sports summary


Pony Club

Members of the Sawtooth Chapter of the United States Pony Club were honored at a recent awards ceremony held in Bellevue.

The Brooke Selisch Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Augusta Catherin-Sauer, a Sawtooth Pony Club member working on her D-3 Pony Club rating. Augusta was presented the award for outstanding sportsmanship and horsemanship by Kurt and Gail Selisch, in memory of their daughter Brooke who was an avid Pony Club member who's life had been greatly influenced by her participation in the USPC. Additional award recipients were Haley Cooper, honored for achieving an unprecedented score of 97% for best C-rated rider turnout, Augusta Catherin-Sauer for best D-rated rider turnout, Jillian Shay for achieving perfect attendance during 2009 and Shawn Keppner of Bell Mountain Stables for Outstanding Supporter of the Year.

Gymnastics

The Wood River Gymnastics Academy competed in the Magic Valley meet over the weekend. The top six gymnasts in each event were given ribbons. Results: First place—Lauren Cord (vault), Megan Downey (bars), Amber Park (beam). Second place—Sage Rheinschild (vault), Amber Park (all-around), Ciara Hulett (floor), Maddie Marcoullier (vault), Alma Stosius (vault). Third place—Ciara Hulett (bars/beam/all-around) Amber Park (vault), Lauren Cord (beam/floor), Kaili Smith (floor). Fourth place—Amber Park (bars/beam), Megan Downey (all-around), Bella Stethem (beam). Sixth place—Lauren Cord (all-around).

Next up for the team is the Gem State Invitational in Boise, Jan. 29-30.

Spring soccer registration

Sawtooth United F.C. is accepting player registration for the spring Competitive Program soccer season. Teams will be formed in age groups U-10 through U-17 for players born after Aug. 1, 1992 through July 31, 2000. For more information and to download registration forms, visit www.sawtoothunited.com or call 726-1160. Registration deadlines are Jan. 23 for U11 and older players and Feb. 15 for U10 players. SUFC will also begin its annual Winter Indoor Arena soccer sessions beginning Sunday, Jan. 24th, and continuing through February. Sessions are drop-in and open to all youth players age 10-and-older at no charge.

Saints Alive!

Kathy Scott of Hailey is one of four finalists with a shot to to win Director of Fandemonium in the NFL-Monster.com Challenge. Scott is a diehard New Orleans Saints fan who is cheering all the way from Idaho.
