Hockey roundup

Bantams

The Salmon Valley Bantam team, comprised of players from Sun Valley and Salmon, finished third in the Salmon Invitational tournament last weekend. The squad went 2-2, beating Bozeman 3-0 in the consolation game. The first line set the tone, scoring on three consecutive shifts for their second shutout of Montana (4-0) behind goalie Taylor Dopson. Cam Benson finished with three goals, Mason Noyes 2, Riley Sibbach 2, Calder Zarkos 1. Chase Hutchinson recorded an assist and played solid defense, along with Cameron Jenner, Gage Jorgenson and Sam Ruddell. The Suns will host Idaho Falls and Boise this weekend.

Squirts

The SVYH Squirts traveled to Jackson Hole for a four game set with teams from Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Montana. The Squirts avenged a 5-3 loss earlier in the season to Jackson Hole Gold, winning 4-3. Sun Valley tied Jackson Hole 1-1 and Idaho Falls 2-2. Tournament champion Utah beat the Suns 7-0, but it was the fewest goals the team scored all weekend.

Idaho Steelheads

The Idaho Steelheads hockey teams with several local players are staging fundraisers to help defray the cost of participating in USA Hockey's National Championships in Washington, D.C. and New Jersey this spring. Local Bantam players are Drew Barsch, Parker Weekes, Liam Jablonski, Jon Paris and Willis Sanchez-duPont. PeeWee players are Eli Conrad, Tripp Hutchinson, Jack Goodwin, Carter Miller, Brandon Benson and Erik Wilander. The teams will be selling raffle tickets and other items to raise money. The Senators (2-3-3) recorded their second victory of the season, beating the Wild Cats (2-5-1) 4-2. Crash Ballou and Gunnar Whitehead tallied two goals each for their respective teams.
