Teams Gear Up for Pond Hockey Tourney

The third annual Pond Hockey Classic is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 16 and 17, at Atkinson Park in Ketchum. The event, with teams playing 4-on-4 with a maximum of six people per team, is a traditional pond hockey tournament modeled after the National Pond Hockey Championship held in St. Paul, Minn., each year. The outdoor “pond” is divided into three sheets of ice, so there will be six teams playing at all times. Two divisions will compete for the coveted “Golden Shovel.” Registration forms can be picked up at Atkinson Park (726-7820) and at the Blaine County Recreation District in Hailey (788-2117). Registration forms must be returned to either location by today, Jan. 13, at 5 p.m. Cost is $100 per team. All proceeds will go toward scholarships for kids in the BCRD’s Summer Day Camp and the summer camp at Atkinson Park. Express photo by Willy Cook
