Hailey-raised Joey Sides, 23, playing his first season for the Arizona Sun Dogs, is the rookie scoring leader in the Central Hockey League, a pro development league in its 18th season.
Sides, a 5-11, 180-pound forward wearing #12 for the Prescott-based minor league hockey team, has 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 29 games, with a +4 rating. He is a first-year player for Arizona (13-18-3 for 8th place in the CHL Southern Conference).
After playing prep hockey at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut, Sides skated for four years from 2005-09 for Wentworth in Boston, Mass., emerging as a two-time ECAC Northeast All-Star and serving as senior captain. In 90 collegiate games he had 32 goals and 53 assists.
