Ski Club debuts season with slalom, Skoch Cup

It's going to be a big week for the Sun Valley Ski Club.

Three events are scheduled for Tuesday through Sunday, Jan. 12-17 starting with the club's Soup Social on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Ketchum American Legion Hall.

On Wednesday, Jan. 13, the club is opening its 2010 ski racing season with a slalom on Baldy's Cozy ski run. Registration is from 8-9 a.m. at Warm Springs Lodge with the first run of slalom starting 10 a.m.

Cost is $15 for two timed runs. Awards for age classes from under 21 to over 85 will follow the event, after the race results are tabulated.

According to Ken Dreyer of the ski club, Wednesday's slalom is a perfect opportunity in two respects. First, it's for anyone who would like to enjoy friendly competition, and second, it's a good "tune-up" race for next weekend's Skoch Cup races on Baldy.

Formula Sports and the ski club are sponsoring the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Intermountain Masters Skoch Cup on Friday, Jan. 15 through Sunday, Jan. 17.

The schedule calls for super giant slalom Friday, GS Saturday and slalom Sunday. The top regional masters will vie for over $1,000. Register Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Warm Springs Lodge.
