Reggie Layne Barton


Reggie Layne Barton passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 28, 2009, in Pocatello, Idaho, in his apartment with his dog, Tator, at his side.

Reggie was born May 6, 1980, in Hailey, Idaho. He graduated from Carey High School in 1998, and was all-state lineman in his 10th, 11th and 12th years in school. He then attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., in 1998-2000 where he played football for the "Battling Bears." He transferred to Idaho State University in 2000, and played again for the Bengals before becoming their assistant strength coach.

Reggie was married to Sara Durham on June 26, 2004. They moved to Philedelphia, Pa., where he was the strength coach at Temple University and later at Villanova University. He moved back to Carey in 2006. Reggie was in law enforcement in Blaine County, Custer County and the city of Hailey.

Most recently, Reggie went back to Idaho State University working toward his master's degree. Reggie loved football, lifting weights, guns and his dog, Tator.

Surviving family is his parents, Jim and Sues Barton, Carey, Idaho; sister, Kristy Barton of Boise; and grandmother Mildred Barton of Carey and grandparents Charles and Lois Maestas of Hagerman. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Boyd Barton.

Services for Reggie were on Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Carey LDS Church.
