The kids know music

If you like music, then let me share a secret with you about great concerts—they are being put on by the valley's very own Wood River middle and high school kids! We went to the Christmas concert on Dec. 11, and it was wonderful. Do you like jazz but don't want to wait until next October? Then check our their two jazz bands at the spring concert. They have a regular jazz band and a Dixieland jazz band.

This year in particular there are some very gifted seniors who play in multiple bands who are marvelous (Chris, Sam, Zach, among others). The high school concert band sounds like it is just one step shy of being in the amphitheater in Sun Valley giving performances, the seventh- and eighth-grade band sounds like a high school concert band, and the sixth-grade band is only marvelous in performing music at its inception. Mr. Randall, the music teacher who is teaching both schools, pep bands, concert bands and the jazz bands, is absolutely amazing. He is our resident Mr. Holland's Opus.

Check with the Wood River High School for the spring performance and remember that it doesn't cost anything to listen to these young musicians, and they're good enough that it probably should.
