Parke on Fort Lewis national soccer champions

Raised in Carey and Hailey, R.J. Parke of Durango, Colo. enjoyed an NCAA Division 2 national championship while playing collegiate men's soccer for the Fort Lewis (Colo.) Skyhawks at Tampa, Fla. Dec. 5. Parke, a son of Hailey taxi driver Shane Parke, was a member of the Skyhawks team (24-1) that defeated Lees-McCrae 1-0 for the Durango school's second national soccer title. A 6-1, 175-pound redshirt freshman defender, Parke is a second-year medical student from Durango High School.

McNeal, Rudigoz in Swiss ski cross

Ketchum's Langely McNeal and Biche Rudigoz were among the top Americans in World Cup ski cross races Dec. 21-22 at Innichen, Italy. Michael Schmid of Switzerland and Anna Holmlund of Sweden led the way, while U.S. leaders were Aspen's Casey Puckett (3rd, 18th) and Caitlin Ciccone of Littleton, N.H. (28th, 27th).

McNeal and Rudigoz were two of the Americans on the World Cup looking for Olympic quota spots. McNeal was the second American woman (44th, 48th). Rudigoz was the third and fourth U.S. man (53rd, 56th) on the San Candido slope. World Cup ski cross action resumes Jan. 5 in Austria.

Rotarun Ski Area season passes on sale

2009-10 Rotarun Ski Area season ski passes are still on sale. Family season passes are available for $295 for a family of four. Additional family members may be added for $50 each. Individual passes are $145 for an adult, $90 for a junior (ages 11-17), $70 for a child (ages 5-10) and $55 for a tot (4-and-under). Call Sarah Busdon at 788-1173.

Outdoor pond hockey tournament is Jan. 16-17

Teams are signing up for the valley's third annual Idaho Pond Hockey Classic, to be held over the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 16-17 at Atkinson Park, Ketchum. Weather permitting, all games will be played at Christina Potters Ice Pond at the park.

Sponsoring the two-day tournament is the city of Ketchum and Blaine County Recreation District.

Format is four-on-four (maximum 6 skaters on a team), no goalies and double elimination. It is a traditional pond hockey format modeled after the National Pond Hockey Championship held at St. Paul, Minn. each year.

The "B" Intermediate division tournament is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The "A" Advanced division is Sunday from 10-4. Fee is $100 per team. The paid registration fee is due by Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. Write checks to City of Ketchum but you can sign up in Ketchum or Hailey.

Sun Valley Half Marathon registration now open

Registration is now open for the sixth annual Sun Valley Half Marathon, scheduled for June 5, 2010. Early registration is $40 and will close on May 31. Late registration is $60 and runs June 1-4. Race day registration will be available for a cost of $65. Online registration is available at www.active.com Mail-in registration is also available. The Wood River Community YMCA in Ketchum will be offering its 10-week training program for the 2010 run. The program will begin in March, with more details to follow.
