Sun Valley offers local ski clinics in January

For kids and adults

Sun Valley Resort, in its 74th winter season, is once again offering special ski and snowboard instruction clinics for young students and local adults during January 2010.

Kids' clinics are part of broad range of ski and snowboard classes Sun Valley Resort is giving in 2010, including popular Local Adult Clinics.

For the 33rd consecutive winter, Sun Valley Company is providing the four-weekend, seven-session Sun Valley Ski & Snowboard School "Locals Camp K-6" (formerly the Blaine County Kids Program).

"Locals Camp K-6" is limited to students in kindergarten through sixth grade (beginner snowboard instruction for kids 6-and-older, only). Ski instruction is limited to 150 skiers per morning or afternoon session, and only 100 snowboarders will be accepted into the program.

The special discount program is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Jan. 9. The cost of $150 per person includes lessons as well as lift tickets for all seven days of the session.

All instruction is provided by regular Sun Valley Ski School instructors at substantial savings compared to the cost of regular children's clinic rates and lift passes.

Tickets for instruction and skiing are available Saturday, Jan. 2 through Friday, Jan. 8 only at River Run Day Lodge (622-2289). No late registrations will be accepted and grade eligibility exceptions won't be allowed. You must sign up in person at River Run.

A child must take part in the first day of lessons Jan. 9 to be eligible for the remaining weekend sessions Jan. 10, Jan. 16-17, Jan. 23-24 and finally Saturday, Jan. 30. Children are put in classes based on ability.

Morning classes start at 9 a.m. and conclude by 11:30 a.m. Register on the first day Saturday, Jan. 9 from 8:30-9 a.m. at Dollar Cabin. Afternoon classes go from 12:30-3 p.m. And you must check in for the afternoon classes on Saturday, Jan. 9 from noon to 12:30 p.m. at Carol's Dollar Mountain Cabin.

Parents are responsible for their children once classes end, so please be prompt in picking up your kids after the classes.

Local Adult Clinics

Also in January, the Sun Valley Ski & Snowboard School for the 29th consecutive year is offering Local Adult ski and snowboard lessons and clinics.

Clinics are separated into Adult Intermediate and Advanced Levels for Local Adults, as well as the Local Adult Beginner Clinics for both skiers and snowboarders.

The clinics for competent Baldy skiers/snowboarders are held for three consecutive Saturdays. They are Jan. 19, Jan. 16 and Jan. 23. The cost of $120 per person does not include the price of lift tickets. Lesson tickets will not be sold on a single-day basis.

Baldy skiers/snowboarders have their initial meeting Saturday, Jan. 9 at 12:30 p.m. at River Run Day Lodge. Instruction is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on each of the three lesson days.

The Beginning Clinic skiers will join regular ski and boarding classes from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the same three Saturdays—Jan. 9, 16 and 23. Absolute beginners won't be required to buy a lift ticket for the first lesson only. Once again, the cost is $120, not including lift tickets.

Participants must register in person at River Run Lodge Saturday, Jan. 2 through Friday, Jan. 8. You must attend the first Saturday. Call River Run Ski School at 622-2289.
