Look, see, enjoy

The world is hip-deep in discontent, but it's time to put it aside. Visitors and residents in the Sun Valley area during the Christmas and New Year's holidays must look, see and enjoy.

First, the big stuff.

Look at the new terrain park on Dollar Mountain. It's a sight to behold with its jibs, jumps and rails. The kids and the kids-at-heart skilled enough to take the flying leaps, dips, flips and twists are making onlookers gasp in fear and delight.

Take a ride on the new River Run gondola and visit the new Harriman Bar at Roundhouse. The 180-degree views of the Boulder and Pioneer mountains are something to behold. No skis required. Ahhh.

Anyone who hasn't been here for a while needs to visit the Sun Valley Resort Clubhouse, now the center for Nordic skiing there. And a walk from the Sun Valley Lodge to the Sun Valley Pavilion will reveal an architectural marvel.

Along the way, share a smile with a stranger or a hug with friends old and new. Enjoy the big Christmas Eve celebration at Sun Valley Resort. Laugh with the frolicking kids.

Then, begin to notice the small stuff.

If the night is clear, find a dark place and look up. Confront the mysterious Milky Way in all its sparkling glory. Drink it in. Get lost in awe and wonder.

At some point on Christmas Day, stop. Stop on a ski run or a sidewalk. Look around. Really, really look. See the sparkle of new snow and notice the fleeting crystalline structure of a single snowflake.

Breathe in the delicate richness and depth of life. Exhale peace. Enjoy knowing you are part of it all and welcome here.
