Farrow, Palmer strike gold in Snow King tech races

Good week for SVSEF

Sun Valley alpine ski racers made a big impression Dec. 11-14 during the USSA Western Region FIS Open Series of technical races on Elk run at Snow King in Jackson, Wyo.

Wood River High School sophomore Teagen Palmer, 15, got the four-day race series off to a roaring start when she won both runs of Friday's women's giant slalom and topped the field of 37 finishers in first place by 1.01 seconds. It was the first of her three J2 class victories.

Tanner Farrow, 16, had a blistering second run of slalom Monday to capture the 84-racer men's slalom finale by .30 seconds over silver medalist and first-run leader Bergen Palmer, 17, also of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF).

Farrow won his J2 age group twice, in GS and SL, during a season-opening series when SVSEF racers climbed the podium 15 times. In two GSs and a slalom event, Nicole Roos joined Bergen Palmer as an age class silver medalist. Harlan Collins was bronze medalist in J2 slalom, as was Amanda Stelling in J2 giant slalom.

Teagen Palmer and Roos went 1-2 in their class in all three races they finished, highlighted by gold and bronze overall finishes in Friday's GS. In the Intermountain Division field there were 90 men and 43 women.

Other overall placings for SVSEF in the series hosted by the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club:
