Police investigate BB gun shootings

Vandalism in Sun Valley, man shot in Ketchum

Ketchum and Sun Valley police are investigating BB gun shootings this month in both cities. In Ketchum, a man was shot in the downtown area and in Sun Valley windows were shot in buildings and cars.

"I believe that it's all related," Sun Valley Assistant Police Chief Mike Crawford said Monday. "We have people of interest that we're making arrangements to speak to."

Ketchum Police Chief Steve Harkins reported that a local resident was shot in the shoulder with a BB gun on Dec. 10 about 7 p.m. while the man was walking on Main Street near its intersection with Fourth Street. Harkins said the shot is believed to have been fired from a vehicle, described as a "white 90s model Chevy Suburban with black trim around the fender wells" and with an Idaho "bluebird" license plate with the last two numbers of "75."

Harkins reported that the shooting victim followed the vehicle to the corner of Fourth and Leadville. There were two males inside and one of them was holding a BB handgun. Harkins said the vehicle sped away when the victim confronted the suspects.

Harkins said the man didn't require medical attention. Nor did he know the suspects or a motive as to why he was shot.

Crawford said damage in Sun Valley was mainly at The Community School. It's not certain when the shootings occurred, but complaints were made on Dec. 7 and Dec. 12. Three windows were shot in school buildings and two parked vehicles had windows shot out or damaged.

On Dec. 11, Sun Valley police received a report of another window damaged by a BB gun at a residence on Fairway Road.

The culprits face a potential battery charge in Ketchum and malicious injury to property charges in Sun Valley.
