Land exists for fields

Ketchum and the Ketchum Parks and Recreation Department should approach and negotiate with the Idaho Park Foundation for use of some of its land on the west side of Highway 75 for soccer fields and a paragliding landing area.

That flat land is just a natural for low-impact park usage to be enjoyed by the people of the area. After all, it is named the Idaho Park Foundation. There would be very little impingement on that land's present condition and appearance. Several areas would be seeded with grass for the playing fields, and some area would be graveled for parking. The only structure needed would be a small restroom facility.

The Idaho Park Foundation has 47 acres of open lend on the west side of Highway 75. Two or three acres at the north end, near the junction of Serenade Lane and Highway 75, would be ideal for the soccer fields and landing area and with access off Serenade Lane.

Now, Ketchum is hassling with Sun Valley Co. to get a bit of land for soccer fields and a landing area maybe 10 years from now when some development might happen at River Run. Immediately adjacent to the River Run area is the more suitable and more accessible Idaho Park Foundation land, which could be available even next year for soccer fields. All it takes is some enlightened and determined leadership on the part of Ketchum.
