A group of young men and women in Ketchum have come together to show off their talents and create a buzz for a new generation of artists. These artists have created the first Starving Artists Guild exhibition, which will take place at Penelope's Café in Ketchum's Giacobbi Square on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 7-9 p.m.

"With the economy down, it has forced more community awareness," said musician and event organizer Sheryll Mae Grace. "We wanted to make sure young, local artists were recognized."

The exhibition will include stone sculpture by Gabe Embler, black-and-white print photography by Jessica Baylis, mixed media work by Chatham Baker, original custom shoe printing and painting by Charlotte Hemmings and original music performed by Sheryll Mae Grace and Aaron Pugh.

"We want everyone to come no matter lack of funds and enjoy a community event for all ages," Grace said. "Owners of Penelope's Café, Josh and Stephanie, are trying to get their business off the ground and all of us need to support each other."

Attendees can enjoy a glass of wine or a bite to eat at the café while listening to music by Grace and Pugh. Grace writes and performs original work and has teamed up with Pugh in the past year. The duo has had a successful run of Wood River Valley shows and will be touring beyond the valley in the months to come.

"Sun Valley is a secluded area, and we need to do more with the people who are here," Grace said.

In addition, raffle tickets will be available for $5 apiece or five tickets for $20, which will support the event and the artists. The winner, who needs to be present to win, will receive four small pieces of art from participating Starving Artists Guild exhibitors as well as a print and a CD. Raffle tickets are available at Chapter One Bookstore in Ketchum or from the artists.
