Celebrate arts in the valley

Hats off to the Wood River Arts Alliance. I want to call readers' notice to a community resource that deserves much more attention.

The Wood River Valley is incredibly fortunate to have such a strong arts community. "Arts" as in "visual arts" but also a wide array of performing arts, including drama, music and dance, as well as literary arts with lectures and visiting authors. Make no mistake, the arts are as vital to the business community as to the cultural souls of its community.

We are also blessed to have a strong umbrella organization for the valley's arts organizations, the Wood River Arts Alliance. Since 1991, it has been cultivating and promoting vibrancy in the arts and cultural life of the Wood River Valley through a network of arts advocates. It connects the myriad arts organizations, meeting five times per year as a group. Additionally, the alliance promotes appreciation of the arts by the children of the valley with its annual, free Children's Arts Festival, scheduled next for March 6.

The Wood River Arts Alliance is funded by the Idaho Commission on the Arts, membership dues and donations.

This holiday season, I urge you to support the arts by attending a play, dance performance, concert or lecture. You can also support the Wood River Arts Alliance by becoming an individual member for $25 dues. Finally, please remember the nonprofit arts community as you plan your year-end giving.
