A 30-year-old Ketchum man was treated and released at St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center following a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning on Elkhorn Road.

Sun Valley police identified the man as Cosmin Russu. He was taken to the hospital by a Ketchum Fire Department ambulance.

Assistant Police Chief Mike Crawford said the accident occurred shortly after midnight Friday when Russu, driving a 2004 Mercedes sedan, ran off Elkhorn Road near its intersection with Juniper Road.

"He missed that curve, went into the snow, slid for about 50 to 75 yards and ran into a tree," Crawford said.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

Police said they did not know why Russu lost control of the vehicle. Crawford said a blood test was taken at St. Luke's but that results weren't yet available.

"It's being investigated as a possible DUI," he said.
