Safe Routes was a success

Last month, the city of Bellevue completed its Safe Routes to School project by laying out concrete sidewalks along certain city streets. Our house sits along Oak Street South and is one of the homes along the new sidewalks. These sidewalks were completed just recently after about a year of planning and preparations and we are very happy with the end results we find along our home.

The city of Bellevue has completed a positive asset to our city with these new concrete sidewalks. Much of the credit for success has to be given to the day-to-day work and interaction that City Administrator Tom Blanchard provided by addressing any concerns expressed from homeowners along the three routes and providing information on the project as it progressed.

Now it is up to the individual homeowners, like ourselves, along these new concrete routes to take pride in what has been completed and next spring install plantings between the sidewalk and street. This will not only create a buffer between pedestrians and motor vehicles, but also show some pride in our own immediate areas and neighborhoods.
