Kim Fluetsch qualifies for Boston Marathon

Kim Fluetsch, a science teacher at College of Southern Idaho/Blaine County Center, has qualified for the 2010 Boston Marathon 26-miler. She ran a 3.39:38 marathon Oct. 11 at the Bizz Johnson Trail Marathon in Susanville, Ca. Completing her 14th marathon, Fluetsch placed fifth in the Women's 45-49 age class. The Fluetsch family including Kim's husband David and daughters Allison and Autumn plan to be spectators next April in Boston. Kim is also an instructor in CSI's popular Fit and Fitness class for persons ages 60-and-over in Hailey.

SunValley.com downs Morgan's 4-2

SunValley.com (2-0, 7 goals scored, 4 against) emerged as the only unbeaten team in the Senior Hockey League Monday night with a solid 4-2 victory over Morgan's Fine Finishes (0-2, 5-9) on Game Night at the Sun Valley Skating Center.

Mike Brooks, who had the overtime game winner against Yoga College Nov. 23, pumped in a pair of goals for SunValley.com while Eric Wingard and John Kearney Jr. contributed singles. Ryan Enrico pitched in with an assist. For Morgan's, goals came from Phil Hebert and Ryan Laughly.

Yoga College (1-1, 7-5) saved a scoring burst for the third period and surged past Grumpy's/Sun Valley Auto Club (1-1, 7-8) by a 5-2 score in Monday's other game.

Trailing 1-0, Yoga College scored two goals in the second period for a 2-2 deadlock after two stanzas. But it was all Yoga in the third, three unanswered goals including Kris Webster's call-your-shot floating knuckle-puck for the punctuation mark.

Blake Jenson tallied two Yoga College goals and added an assist. Brad Dredge had a goal and assist for the winners. Zac Crist added a single and Jon Duval chipped in an assist. Cody Proctor and Rod Watson scored for Grumpy's and Rune Haavik landed an assist.

Coming up: On Monday, Dec. 7, Morgan's goes against Yoga College at 8:20 p.m. and Grumpy's/SV Auto Club plays SunValley.com at 9:30 p.m.

Then, on Monday, Dec. 14, the game schedule is Yoga College vs. SunValley.com at 8:20 p.m. and Grumpy's/SV Auto Club vs. Morgan's Fine Finishes at 9:30 p.m.

Arritola races over Thanksgiving in Finland

Ketchum's Morgan Arritola, 23, put a few notches on her belt in Finland over Thanksgiving weekend as part of her first full season on the FIS World Cup Nordic tour.

The U.S. Nordic Ski Team "A" teamer finished 70th in Sunday's 10-kilometer classic race at Kuusamo, after placing 79th in Saturday's women's sprint at the same site. Arritola along with Vermont's Liz Stephen, 22, and veteran Kikkan Randall, 26, of Anchorage were the three American women competing at Kuusamo. Said head coach Pete Vordenberg, "The younger girls, Liz and Morgan, are just continuing to add more and more strength and get more races under their belts."

The American weekend star was 29-year-old Kris Freeman of New Hampshire. He just missed the podium with a fourth place in the men's 15k classic event Sunday. It was a career-best World Cup finish for Freeman, and the best non-sprint U.S. World Cup finish in 26 years.

Get your Christmas trees and help Wood River's wrestling team

Be sure to help out the Wood River High School wrestling team with its annual Christmas tree fundraising event. Tree sales started Monday, Nov. 30 at Giddy Up Coffee in Bellevue. The Noble Fir trees were cut the week of Nov. 19 from a tree farm at Banks, Ore. The prices are $58 for an eight-foot tree, $48 for a seven-footer, $38 for a six-footer, $28 for five feet, and $23 four feet.

2009 Turkey Trot a success

Over 500 participants joined the fun and enjoyed the nice Thanksgiving weather Thursday during the sixth annual Turkey Trot fun run and walk in Hailey. The 5-kilometer race (3.1 miles) started and finished at The Community Campus.

The top three men were Beau Seegmiller 18:58, Pedro Moreles 19:00 and Ben Stout 19:26. Still intact is the course record of 17:58 held by three-time winner Brad Mitchell. Top females were Lynda Andros-Clay 21:21, Kate Nelson 21:27 and India Wysong 22:12. Top youth male and female winners were Ben Stout 19:26 and Alison Town 26:19.

Benefiting from the holiday event were Souper Supper and the Girls on the Run program. Run results will be published when organizers release them.

Hailey's Coleman moves up with Chukar volleyball

Hailey's Angela Coleman has just completed her freshman year playing volleyball for coach Dennis Gill at Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) in Ontario, Ore.

Coleman graduated from Wood River High School in 2009 after a distinguished three-sport career.

The 5-10 outside hitter began the season with limited playing time on the 14-player Chukar roster that had only three freshmen. By midseason Coleman had worked her way into the rotation as outside hitter.

Highlight of her season was a dominant 3-0 home victory over Wenatchee Valley CC Oct. 29 in which Coleman led the Chukars with 13 kills on 28 attempts (13-6-28).

Angela is doing well in school with finals in mid-December and spring ball starting in January.

TVCC finished the volleyball season 14-12 overall and 5-7 in the Eastern Conference of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWACC). Spokane CC (33-12) defeated Mount Hood CC (33-11) during the 28-team NWAACC championships held Nov. 19-21 at Portland, Ore.
