SV girls host hockey tourney this weekend

Boosted by strong effort at Ice Bowl

Coming off a strong effort during the annual Ice Bowl hockey tournament in Idaho Falls Nov. 21-22, the Sun Valley girls' ice hockey team will host its home tournament at Sun Valley Skating Center Dec. 5-6.

Highlight of this weekend's tournament is a Senior Game Saturday Dec. 5 at 3:45 p.m. Sun Valley will honor its three seniors—captain Ashley Hesteness, assistant captain Nellie Brown and Morgan Pintler.

Coaches Dave Hennessy and Eddie Grimes were proud of their U-19 team for winning three of its four games at the Ice Bowl. Sun Valley (18-7 goals against) beat Salmon 9-0, Idaho Falls 4-2 and Utah Grizzlies 4-1, and lost to Boise Hericanes 4-1.

Goal scorers were Hesteness 6, Daniela Stokes 3, Frannie Sensenbrenner 3, Dylan Peterson 3, Pintler 2 and Brown 1. Peterson received the tournament jersey for her strong hustle all weekend.

Awarded game pucks were Pintler, Stokes, Peterson and Ellie Swanson. Other Sun Valley players were goalie Emma Wilander, Georgy Goodwin, Erin Hennessy and assistant captain Kelly Hennessy.

Noteworthy points about the Ice Bowl included: Sun Valley rebounding from its Sunday's morning loss to Boise and posting its first-ever win over the Grizzlies; and two goals by Hesteness plus an amazing coast-to-coast rush by Brown in the 4-2 win over Idaho Falls that was a rematch of last year's state championship.

Meanwhile, Sun Valley's five U-14 girls teamed with Salmon players and played three games against Idaho Falls and Montana at the Ice Bowl. Skating were Gina Rickling, Betsy Sensenbrenner, Alison Fluetsch, Alexandra Laughy and Abigail Laughy (1 goal).
