Talk it up

The Sun Valley area is buzzing with news of the new gondola on Baldy, not to mention the new outdoor fireplaces at River Run Lodge and Carol's Lodge, and the new terrain park on Dollar Mountain.

A whole lot of Idaho turned out for the festive and energetic Gondola 'Ganza opening last Saturday. On opening day, skiers and boarders laid down some happy grooves on the 3,200-foot, top-to-bottom runs on Baldy—13 days earlier than the previous year thanks to cold temperatures that allowed an enormous amount of snowmaking.

The place is humming with interest and optimism. The area is ready to be rediscovered by people who love winter, skiing, boarding and snowshoeing.

Now, everyone who wants to beat back the recession—and that's pretty much everyone who lives here—needs to get the word out: Sun Valley is more than just open—it's alive with cool changes and more fun than it's been in awhile.

Think breakfast at the Roundhouse, courtesy of an 8:30 a.m. gondola ride, which gets early birds halfway up the mountain before the main lifts open.

Think taking the kids to the terrain park for some air and some rails.

Think lingering around the outdoor fire after giving your all up to the Big Bald One.

Think about the area's quieter charms.

Do it all. Then, tell friends, family and acquaintances by phone, e-mail, blogs, social networks, comments or carrier pigeon. Type, talk or tweet—it matters not.

The area needs to use every tool in the box—and that includes you—to help reinvigorate the mountain resort area that we love.

Get after it.
