Get holiday trimmings at bazaar

The Barkin' Basement will display the best of its holiday crockery, tree trimmings and other decorations at the Bow Wow Bazaar, to be held Monday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Cookies and cocoa will be served to visitors at the thrift shop, which benefits the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley.

"In addition, visitors can see the Barkin' Basement's new cat adoption center," said shop Manager Andrea Parker.

The Barkin' Basement is located at 111 S. Main St. in Hailey. For additional information on the Bow Wow Bazar, call 788-3854.

Recycle old holiday lights

The Hailey Chamber of Commerce is participating in Idaho Power's Holiday Lights Recycling Program for the second year.

In 2008, with the help of citizens and member businesses, the city collected enough non-LED, inefficient holiday lights to get a refund of $1,600. The money was used to buy new, more energy-efficient LED lights to decorate Hailey's Main Street.

To participate this year, bring old holiday lights to any of the following collection spots: Hailey Chamber of Commerce, city of Hailey, Vintage Gypsy, Teddy Bear Corner Daycare, Windermere Real Estate, Atkinsons' Market, Albertsons or Big Wood Auto Body.

The Wood River Middle School leadership class will participate in this project for the second year and will set up additional collection spots throughout town.

Call the Hailey Chamber of Commerce at 788-3484 for more information.

Trail Creek Road closes Nov. 30

Crews from the Blaine County Road and Bridge Department will officially shut down vehicle access to Trail Creek Road beginning at 8 a.m., Nov. 30. Barricades will be installed to block motorists from driving beyond the closure point, a news release from the county states.

During the warmer months, the road is the shortest link between the Wood River and Lost River valleys. Deep snows typically make the high pass impassable for about half the year.

The road will reopen once spring weather and melting snowpack allows. For questions related to the closure, contact Char Nelson, Blaine County director of operations, at 788-5543.

Work on Capitol building complete

Renovation of the Idaho Capitol building has progressed far enough for construction managers to open it back up to elected officials and their staff. The 30-month, $120 million project is on schedule to accommodate the 2010 legislative session in the restored and expanded building, a news release from the Idaho State Capitol Commission states.

A public re-dedication of the building in downtown Boise is scheduled for Jan. 9 at noon. At that time, the public will be able to visit all the public areas of the 250,000-square-foot seat of Idaho government.

For now, the building remains closed to public entry as it is still considered a major construction zone. The highly choreographed move-in by public officials will take several weeks. For information on the opening ceremony, contact Gary Daniel at (208) 332-1971.

The ceremony is sponsored by the Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau, the city of Ketchum, Atkinsons' Market, Tully's Coffee and Sun Valley Co.

First Ascent tour to kick off

Sun Valley's Reggie and Zach Crist, both former World Cup racers and X-Games competitors, will kick off a product-testing tour for Eddie Bauer's new First Ascent ski clothing line at River Run Lodge on Saturday, Nov. 28, from noon to 2 p.m.

The event will include live music by the band Low-Fi, giveaways and a tour of the Eddie Bauer First Ascent Airstream Mobile Lab. Sun Valley Co. spokesman Jack Sibbach said the day's events will be disseminated on social networking sites and in Eddie Bauer's advertising.

"It's going to promote the party atmosphere and the skiing that day," Sibbach said. "The exposure for us is important."

ITD enhances 511 Traveler Services

The Idaho Transportation Department has announced enhancements to its 511 Traveler Services system.

Using touch-tone or voice commands, users can now select a portion of a highway for information without having to listen to the entire report for a road. Also, users can state the direction of travel for which information is needed and can relate information to city locations as opposed to lesser-known markers such as mileposts.

Dial 511 to access the system. Information is also available online at 511.idaho.gov.
