Clyde Voss

Longtime Bellevue resident Clyde Voss died peacefully in his home on Nov. 17, 2009, at the age of 91.

Clyde Voss was born on June 13, 1918, in Andover, S.D., where he attended school and worked on the family farm. After high school he joined the South Dakota National Guard and was soon called to duty in World War II. He served in the South Pacific and after the war was over settled in Salinas, Calif. There he met the love of his life, Winifred. They soon moved to Tacoma, Wash., where they raised their only child, David. One of Clyde's greatest joys was watching his son participate in sports. He never missed a game and one of his proudest moments was when Dave signed a professional baseball contract after high school graduation.

In 1984 Clyde and Winifred moved to Bellevue to be close to their son. Here Clyde enjoyed all the outdoor activities that Idaho has to offer, especially bird hunting. After Winifred passed away in 2004, Clyde stayed connected with his peers and community at Blaine County's Senior Connection. He made many new friends and impressed all with his expertise at playing pool. He could cut a mean dance step and the ladies were always appreciative of his dancing ability. Clyde gave back in many ways—calling Bingo and pulling the Fourth of July Senior Connection float with his vintage pickup every summer.

This second home of Clyde's was also the venue of the celebration of his 90th birthday, which drew family and friends from all parts of the country. He wished for no other tribute after that. He will be missed by all who knew him but his amazing spirit will forever be with us.

Surviving Clyde are his brothers, Glen and Richard; his son, David (wife Patricia McGinnis); and his granddaughter, Samantha.

Interment will be at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Boise. Memorials in Clyde's name should be bestowed upon the Blaine County Senior Connection or the Hospice of the Wood River Valley.
