Gallery Walk

Galleries host monthly art walk

Gallery Walk, sponsored by the Sun Valley Gallery Association, will take place Friday, Nov. 27, from 5-8 p.m. Below is a description of the galleries that will be open and the works on display. The first eight galleries listed are members of the Sun Valley Gallery Association.

BROSCHOFSKY GALLERIES

The Courtyard, 360 East Ave.—Broschofsky Galleries exhibits historic through contemporary Western paintings, sculpture and photographs, including works by Russell Chatham, Michael Coleman, Brandon Cook, Edward Curtis, J.C. Dye, Glen Edwards, Jan Grotenbreg, Tom Howard, William Matthews, Gordon McConnell, Theodore Villa and Andy Warhol.

FREDERIC BOLOIX FINE ARTS

Friesen Building, second floor, Sun Valley Road and First Avenue—Frederic Boloix Fine Arts presents masters of 20th- and 21st-century painting, prints and sculpture with "Quantum" sculpture by physicist-turned-sculptor Julian Voss-Andreae. In addition, see paintings by Spanish artist Salustiano, rare prints by Picasso and paintings and prints by Françoise Gilot. The gallery invites you to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend's Gallery Walk with a glass of champagne and fine art.

FRIESEN GALLERY

Sun Valley Road and First Avenue—Friesen Gallery presents a unique collaboration with Anne Reed Gallery. The November exhibition at Friesen features six artists represented by Anne Reed Gallery: Thomas Brummett, Mayme Kratz, Jill Lear, Emily Leonard, Ricardo Mazal and Yvette Molina. They are showcased among 76 important artists in Friesen's soon-to-be-released book and December exhibition of the same title. B. Anne Reed, owner of Anne Reed Gallery, returns to Ketchum to attend this collaborative exhibition.  For more details, visit speakforthetreesbook.com.

GAIL SEVERN GALLERY

400 First Ave.—Gail Severn Gallery presents in Gallery I "The Artist Eye" with works by Kris Cox, Raphael Goethals, Squeak Carnwath, Jun Kaneko, Valerie Hammond, Judith Kinder, Deborah Oropallo, Christopher Reilly, Woods Davy, Julie Speidel, Bean Finneran, Andrew Harper and Mario Reis. Gallery II features "A Sense of Place XIV" with works by James Cook, Tony Foster, Laura McPhee, Theodore Waddell and Sheila Gardner. In addition, the gallery will exhibit sculpture by David Secrest, Gwynn Murrill, Will Robinson and Mark Stasz. In Gallery III, an exhibition, "Animal—Spirit and Form," includes Ed Musante's painted cigar boxes, Brad Rude's whimsical bronze sculptures and Robert McCauley's dramatic oil paintings.

GALLERY DENOVO

320 First Ave.—In the main gallery is "Figuratively Speaking," new oil paintings by Erik Hall. This new style by Hall is a unique way of looking at the figure and abstractions of it. "The record of our life, and the clock by which our time is measured, and despite the differences we have we will all at some time succumb to the fallibility of our form. It is in this fallibility that I have re-approached painting," Hall said. The upstairs gallery will feature the whimsical loco-mobile sculpture of Gerard Cambon and additional artists' paintings.

GILMAN CONTEMPORARY

661 Sun Valley Rd.—The Gilman Contemporary will present an exhibition, "A Happy Medium." This dynamic exhibition should not be missed and includes three sculptors who have come together to celebrate movement and vitality. Brad Howe, Nancy Sansom Reynolds and Mike Stilkey exhibit work using wood, steel and books. This exhibition is full of capricious poetry, vitality and motion.

KNEELAND GALLERY

271 First Ave.—The Kneeland Gallery presents "Figuratively Speaking," an exhibition featuring paintings celebrating the human form. The show will feature new work from David Koch and Robert Moore and will introduce the work of Sue Foell.

SUN VALLEY CENTER FOR THE ARTS

191 Fifth St.— The Sun Valley Center for the Arts' current exhibition, "Prospects: An Exploration of Mining," features work by Alfredo Jaar, Sebastião Salgado and other artists. From photographs and video to abstract paintings, the artworks on display examine the impact of mining on our history, environment and economy. Enjoy special seasonal drinks while touring the exhibition.

DAVID M. NORTON FINE ART

511 Sun Valley Rd.—Known for his paintings of real-life cowboys and their horses, Jim Norton also paints Indians in their original Plains costumes. His skill at depicting these subjects earned him membership in 1989 to Cowboy Artists of America, and he continues to win awards at the annual Cowboy Artists of America shows.

DREAMCATCHER GALLERY

200 S. Main St., Trail Creek Village—The Dreamcatcher Gallery will feature a collection of fine Native American art-and-craft work, including pottery, fetishes, paintings, traditional and contemporary jewelry, storytellers and ceremonial pieces of museum quality. Hand-carved custom furniture and books will be on display.

ICONOCLAST BOOKS

671 Sun Valley Rd.—The National Alliance on Mental Illness in the Wood River Valley will give an opening reception of its annual benefit, Mindful Art for NAMI. Regional artists participating will have 12x12 panels on exhibition showcasing their work for a silent auction to benefit NAMI. Bids on the panels will be accepted through Dec. 13.

LYNN TONERI-R.C. HINK GALLERY

400 Sun Valley Rd.—Lynn Toneri presents a dynamic collection of landscape, floral and wildlife watercolors. They are available as original, limited-edition offset lithographs and giclee prints. A flamboyant interpretation of the West carved in wood by R.C. Hink includes hats, boots, barstools, beds, armoires, lamps, desks and wildlife sculptures. Exquisite hand-crafted jewelry, glass, sculptures and raku are all affordably priced, perfect for gift giving and collecting.

SADDLETREE GALLERY

460 Sun Valley Rd.—Digital Divas present its first group show. The 13-member local woman's digital photography group is a mixture of artists, professional photographers, book publishers, soccer moms and a ski instructor. Eight of the 13 members will display their work during Gallery Walk.

OCHI GALLERY

119 Lewis St. (located in Ketchum's light-industrial area)—Ochi Gallery is pleased to present work by William T. Wiley, which is concurrent with "What's It All Mean: William T. Wiley in Retrospect" at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. Join the Ochi Gallery on Friday, Nov. 27, from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m. for a screening of "The World According 2 William T. Wiley."

OPEN ROOM

Walnut Avenue Mall across from CIRO—The Open Room presents the photography by Jennifer Jaros Jacoby. Jacoby's exhibition, "Interlude," will include primarily black-and-white images that conjure an intimate interlude between forms. Layered moods, written text and the ingenious play of shadows are all interesting elements in her work.

THE STOECKLEIN GALLERY

151 Main St.—Named by True West Magazine as America's Best Living Western Photographer, David R. Stoecklein features in his gallery a collection of Western antiques and fine art images depicting cowboys, cowgirls and the Western way of life. In addition, the gallery is filled with local area images of such staples as Baldy, Sun Valley, Stanley, the Big Wood River and the Sawtooths.
