The Blaine County Recreation District will hold six days of winter fun for kids in grades K-5 during the Christmas holidays.

The Winter Break Adventure Camp will run Dec. 21-Dec. 30.

"Some of the parents have to work those days, and the kids are out of school, so it creates fun, exciting and creative things for the kids to do," said Cameron Randolph, district youth programs coordinator.

Plans are still tentative and somewhat dependent upon the whims of Mother Nature, but on Monday, Dec. 21, the district intends to take the youngsters for all-day ice skating at Atkinson Park in Ketchum.

Swimming at the Wood River Valley YMCA is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Winter Olympics at the Community Campus in Hailey is set for Wednesday, Dec. 23.

After a Christmas weekend break, the adventure camp continues on Monday, Dec. 28, with a "snowshoe adventure" in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.

Snow tubing at Rotarun Ski Area is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 29.

Outdoor fun at Quigley Nordic, including sledding and cross-country skiing, is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Activities each day will run from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Randolph said all equipment will be provided, though youngsters need to bring their own lunch and appropriate clothing and footwear for each activity.

The cost for a single day is $35. Kids can participate for all six days for $175. Randolph said transportation to events will be provided, though some activities, such as swimming at the YMCA, will require an additional, nominal fee.
