Fire Takes Hold In Hailey Complex

Express photo by David N. Seelig Personal items from a residence at 402 South River St. in Hailey sit outside the structure Wednesday after a fire broke out in the back of the building around 1 a.m. that morning. According to Hailey Fire Chief Mike Chapman, the building consists of four rental units. The fire started in an interior unit, he said. The blaze was under control within 20 minutes, but it was not declared contained for about an hour because firefighters had to check for spread to the attic area and other parts of the old building. “The involved unit was basically gutted, the northern-most unit had some smoke damage. The two end units were pretty well untouched,” said Chapman. No one was injured in the fire. The initial investigation into the cause of the fire is focusing on reports of electrical problems in the building complex, Chapman said.
