Firefighters plan training burn

On Saturday, Nov. 14, the Hailey and Bellevue fire departments will conduct live fire-training exercises at an abandoned residence on North River Street in Hailey. The departments will set several small fires in the building, extinguish them and culminate the training by burning down the structure.

River Street will be closed north of Myrtle Street to Empty Saddle Trail during the training.

In a news release, the departments stated that the training gives less-experienced firefighters the opportunity to suppress fires under controlled conditions and with the close supervision of their officers. The department also has the opportunity to try new tactics for rescuing trapped victims.

The departments expressed gratitude to neighboring residents for tolerating the smoke, noise and inconvenience of the training.

For more information, contact Deputy Chief Carl Hjelm at the Hailey Fire Department, 788 3147.
