Spring soccer team set for Select U-17 girls

Signups underway

Sawtooth United F.C. has announced the formation of a high-school-age girls' team for the spring 2010 soccer season.

Coach Greg Gvozdas is designing a program to allow some flexibility for players who wish to play and train at a competitive club level, but who may have some conflicts with school activities in the spring.

The team, aimed at current and fall 2010 high-school-age players, will be comprised of the highest level players available, SUFC officials said Sunday in a press release.

Player evaluations/tryouts may be held in late November as needed based on the number of players who express interest in joining the team.

Indoor training (one day a week) is set to start in February, and outdoor training (one midweek day and Sundays) will begin in early spring and continue through June 12. Some travel will be involved, though the team won't be traveling every weekend.

A fee of $225 per player includes two tournament entry fees and uniform. Interested players must notify SUFC (726-1160) by today, Friday, Nov. 13. Send an e-mail with name, date of birth and phone number to sawtoothunited@yahoo.com. Financial aid is available.

Gvozdas, an Idaho Olympic Development Program coach, was the Wood River High School girls' varsity soccer coach for five years, from 2004-08, compiling a 79-16-6 record including three State 4A tournament consolation titles.
