Sports summary


B+ Hockey League results

Led by Rod Watson's three-goal hat trick the Isles squeaked out a 4-3 win over Hutch's Bad Dogs Sunday night during the first week of B+ League ice hockey action at Sun Valley Skating Center.

Dale Johnson added a goal in the second before Watson scored his third early in the last period to hold off the never- say-die Dogs. Dogs got scores from John Seiller, John Baker and Jeff Emerick.

Sharks come from behind to beat the Senators 3-2. Eric Wingard, Steve McCoy and Rod Prew scored for the Sharks while Lucy Chubb tallied both goals for the Senators.

In the late game the Vipers ambushed the Wild Cats 4-0. Scott Miller had two goals followed by Jim Laski and John Ellison Jr.

Free waxing clinics in Hailey

The Blaine County Recreation District and TOKO are sponsoring two free Nordic ski waxing clinics in the Art Room of The Community Campus, Hailey. Dates and times are Tuesday, Nov. 17 and Tuesday, Dec. 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Be ready to learn waxing techniques from E.J. Harpham, Jim Santa and Muffy Ritz. High school wrestling meetings

First-year Wood River High School wrestling coach Shawn Huntington (891-5711) has announced the first meetings of the 2009-10 season.

The hydration test for all high school wrestlers is Monday, Nov. 16 at 3:45 p.m. in the wrestling room. The parent and player meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in the high school commons. Practices begin Monday, Nov. 23.

First competition is Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11-12 at Boise's Capital High School.

SV Ski Club winter kickoff party

The Sun Valley Ski Club (622-3003) has announced plans for its annual Winter Kickoff Party. It is set for Sunday, Dec. 6 from 6-9 p.m. in the Continental Room of Sun Valley Inn. The reception will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres including carved beef and turkey breast. A no-host bar will be available. And members are encouraged to bring guests. Cost in advance is $35 for members and non-member guests. At the door the cost will be $40 for everyone. RSVP by Nov. 30 by sending a check to SVSC, P.O. Hockey group sells holiday wreaths

The Sun Valley Youth Hockey Association is selling floral quality Christmas greens. The natural wreaths, door swags, and cedar garlands are available at wholesale prices. Place your order today with your favorite hockey player. Call Kelly Martin at 720-3618 or email svyh@cox.net. Sales have started and will continue until Nov. 17.

All proceeds go to the SVYHA general operating fund. Tuition rates have not increased in five years due to the success of the holiday wreath sales, according to fundraising committee member Kelly Martin.

Paralympians are big names as new Ski Hall of Fame members

Paralympic champions Chris Waddell and Sarah Will highlight a group of eight athletes and sport builders named for induction to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, according to a Nov. 6 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association release. The induction of the Class of 2009 will take place in Colorado April 9, 2010.

Waddell and Will are joined by adaptive skiing pioneer Jack Benedick, legendary big mountain skier Doug Coombs, industry writer and instructor Stu Campbell, veteran ski jumping champ Ansten Samuelstuen, the father of southern skiing Sepp Kober and longtime U.S. Ski Team press officer/journalist Paul Robbins. Winter rates in effect at Burley Municipal Golf Course

Burley Municipal Golf Course head pro Mike Williams (208-878-9807) said winter rates on the 18-hole course started Monday, Nov. 9 and will continue until further notice. Greens fees are $7 per person for nine holes and $12 for 18 holes. Cart fees are $6 per person for nine holes. The course is open seven days a week from about 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. depending on the weather. Call ahead.
