Two winners, 37 years apart

Brothwell and Caulkins

Two Idaho cross country winners pose together Saturday at Circling Raven Golf Course south of Coeur d’Alene. There, Wood River High School senior Chase Caulkins (right) won his school’s first boys’ individual cross country championship since his coach, Monte Brothwell (left), won for Wood River 37 years ago, in 1972. Running on a wet and muddy two-lap, 5-kilometer course, Caulkins out-distanced all 105 boys in the 4A class and had the third-fastest time of all 380 boys Saturday. Courtesy photo
