Voters did right thing

As native Idahoans, we have always known that Blaine County is a special place. Scenic beauty, a pure environment and wonderful recreational amenities abound. These elements, along with our exceptional educational system, are envied by many across our country. Our belief on just how special Blaine County is was very much affirmed on Oct. 29 with the passage of the school levy. It speaks volumes about a community that understands the necessity of investing in its future and is willing to do so even in remarkably trying economic times.

On behalf of the kids who go to school in Blaine County, the teachers and administration of the Blaine County School District and the Blaine County Facilities Levy Committee, we thank you, the voters, for your foresight, courage and trust in passing the levy. The nearly $6 million per year provided by the levy will ensure that we have one of the best educational systems in the country and the best in Idaho.

Your trust is already paying dividends. On Oct. 29, the Blaine County School District was awarded a $4 million grant for revamping our schools' heating and air conditioning systems. That is $4 million we can leverage to the advantage of our taxpayers in building much-needed retrofits. The passage of the levy is already saving money.

We would also like to thank all those who have worked over the last two years in formulating the strategic plan, the guidance document the Blaine County School District will use to move forward during the next 10 years.

And finally, a big thank you to Jim Laski, Spence Ellsworth, Rob Lonning, Millie Reidy, Jerry Hutchins, Matt Murray, Theresa Castellano-Wood, Jeff Neal, Sue Galgano, Heather Crocker, Joan Davies, Jenni Davidson, John Gaeddert, Lonnie Barber, Mike Chatterton, Kate Heineke, Susie Reese, Howie Royal and Molly Michalec, the members of the levy committee, for your many hours of effort in support of the students of Blaine County.
