High Desert All-League boys are named

State champ Gooding tops soccer picks

The newly-crowned State 3A boys' soccer champions from Gooding High School dominated the 2009 High Desert Soccer Conference All-League boys' team, voted on by league coaches on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

In second place behind Bliss in the HDSC league tournament, Gooding (15-2-1) defeated Snake River of Moreland 4-1, Sugar-Salem of Sugar City 2-1 and Teton of Driggs 1-0 to win its first state soccer title Oct. 24 at Vallivue High in Caldwell.

The Senators became only the third Fourth District team to win a state soccer title out of 60 crowns handed out since the Idaho High School Activities Association started sanctioning the sport in 2000.

"Well played to all concerned," said Community School coach Richard Whitelaw about the All-League team.

The Community School's girls' and boys' soccer banquets are scheduled for Nov. 10.

Here are the boys' picks:

From The Community School: Tanner Flanigan.

From Gooding: Jesus Alvarez, Damen Hanson, Manuel Gallegos, Danny Lopez and Andres Valdez.

From Bliss: Alex Cortez, Luis Cortez, Cole Erkins and Cameron Schoesler.

From Wendell: Lupe Alvarado, Johnny Macias and Sascha Winkler.

From Declo: David Cuevas and Erik Henrickson.

From Filer: Jesus Mejia.
